Today at Gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany 2K and Gearbox Software, creators of Borderlands, have announced that their new first person shooter Battleborn will be available on the 9th of February, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. There will also be an open beta that will be released prior to the launch of the game, but sadly more details about that will only be revealed later on this year. On top of the good news about the release four new characters were also revealed called Ambra, Mellka, Reyna and Benedict.

Ambra is an ancient priestess who was betrayed by her leader and faction, the Jennerit Empire, and has now become one of the BattleBorn. Her skills include dealing damage up close and personal with her melee attacks while also being able to heal her allies. Mellka is an assassin, orphaned at a young age, and that was just the start of her life of sorrow. She was never discouraged though as she turns to fury unleashing her nerve gas pistol and bio-glaive. Renya, or The Valkyrie, as some know her has been fighting all her life for the freedom of her space pirate comrades and uses a laser pistol and command glove in her battles. The last of the new heroes is Benedict, or more specifically August Benedick Jr. one of the last members of the Aviant refugees. After spending his life acting selfishly he decided to make a change and use his rocket launcher for good.

It was also announced that the story mode of BattleBorn is able to be completed solo, couch coop or with a party of up to five friends. There will be a total of three different competitive multiplayer modes with 10 players competing in the 5v5 matches. With 25 playable characters overall you won't feel limited in the range of play styles, upgrades and combinations you can create.

Are you excited to get your hands on BattleBorn? Will you be signing up for the beta when it comes out? Which of the new heroes do you most want to try out?
