Every month two Xbox One titles and two Xbox 360 titles are offered for free as part of the Games with Gold program, as long as you have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. From the beginning of the month one game for each platform is available and then on the 16th of the month the second title becomes available. With the release of Xbox One’s Backwards Compatibility there is also the added bonus that both of the Xbox 360 titles are also downloadable and playable via your Xbox One.
This first Xbox One title for the month is Defense Grid 2, a tower defense title, designed by Hidden Path Entertainment. Building upon the success of the first Defense Grid title you will get to test your wit once again as you progress through the main story using a variety of strategies to stop the waves of enemies. On top of that there are also cooperative and competitive game modes included so that you can really test your speed of thinking and strategy. For those who have been with Games with Gold since the beginning the first game, Defense Grid: The Awakening, was one of the first GWG titles.
On the 16th of May Costume Quest 2 will be available for free. The sequel to the Xbox Live Arcade title you get to take control of the heroic twins again as you collect candy and costumes to take place in battles against Dr. Orel White. Like in the original game the costumes you collect as you play will transform you into all kinds of different halloween creatures.
For the Xbox 360 at the start of the month GRID 2 will be racing onto your console. With its TrueFeel handling system whether you’re racing for a championship, against a friend, or just for fun you’ll be able to feel the car as you tear down the track. If you enjoyed Dirt 3 and Dirt: Showdown, two prior GWG titles, then you will most likely also enjoy this game from the same developer.
The final game for the Xbox 360 will be Peggle, in somewhat of a combo breaker. This classic puzzle game will be free starting on the 16th of May when GRID 2 returns to its normal price. With over 50 levels, multiplayer mode, a variety of power-ups and continued replayability this is one of those perfect games for if you have time to kill or only want to play for 30 minutes.
Before the end of the month be sure to look at the Games with Gold titles for April 2016 so you don’t miss out on the free titles that are still out. Still available is The Wolf Among Us, and Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One and Saints Row IV for the Xbox 360.
