Games Done Quick, an organization that utilizes speed running events to raise money for charity, will be hosting an event to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey according to the organization’s official Twitter. Titled “Harvey Relief Done Quick”, it will be a showcase of speed runs streamed online much like other events run by the organization.

Games Done Quick runs multiple events throughout the year including Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick. Speed runners will showcase high-level speed running gameplay streamed online and played in person at a particular venue with the goal of attracting an audience to raise money for charity. To date, the organization has raised over $12 million for charities such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. GDQ is currently the largest fundraising event for both of these charities; they have since decided to bring their speed running skills to bear against a new challenger: the Hurricane Harvey disaster.

Hurricane Harvey is a storm system that has caused terrible flooding in Southeastern Texas due to over 40 inches (1000 mm) of rain. The Chicago Tribune lays out the facts about the devastation: 22 people have been confirmed dead, 13,000 people have needed to be rescued, and an estimated 30,000 people have been displaced from their homes in the region.  It has been the biggest rainfall in a single event in the history of the Continental United States.

So far, Games Done Quick has received submissions from over 350 runners who will be participating in Harvey Relief Done Quick. If you think you have what it takes to do a speed run and you want to contribute your skills, you can take a shot at submitting your run through this form. There’s no firm cutoff deadline, but accepted runners will be contacted before 8:00 PM EDT on Thursday, August 31, 2017, so it’s best to put your submission in as soon as possible. Harvey Relief Done Quick will take place from Friday, September 1, 2017, at 8:00 PM EDT until Sunday, September 3, 2017, at 8:00 PM EDT.
