Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L) a game design scholarship program run by Daybreak Game Company (formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment), has doubled the amount of scholarships they will be awarding this year to two instead of one.

The scholarship program, which focuses on creating women orientated games, is now a accepting applicants. Despite the title is eligible to all American students over the age of 18, regardless of gender, who are currently enrolled in a video game related undergraduate program. The scholarship focuses on awarding excellence in video game design and so only applicants with a GPA of above 3.0 are invited to enter.

The scholarships not only offer the 2 winners $5,000 each to spend on tuition, living expenses and other university or college based expenses, but the winners will also be offered the chance to attend a summer internship at Daybreak's headquarters in San Diego.

There are two types of scholarships on offer. The Art and Design Scholarship requires applicants to submit 2 pieces of original concept art inspired by either Planetside 2 or the Everquest franchise, and a 500 word essay on why you want to be involved in the games industry.  The Programming and Engineering category requires entrants to design a feature for a Daybreak game of their choice, and complete the above essay.

Laura Naviaux, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing for Daybreak Game Company issued this statement:

"Previous internship contributions from G.I.R.L. winners have been nothing short of excellent, which played a key part in our decision to evolve the scholarship even further ... We're thrilled that we can provide two students the opportunity this summer to learn more about creating online games, while helping to shepherd new talent into the industry."
Applications close on March 26th and winners will be announced no later than April 15th.
