Gaming is a growing industry, and one that everyone is trying to get. With an ever-increasing range of tools that allow almost anyone to make a game, there's no limit to what people can do to their ideas. With tools such as Unity3D, XNA, SFML, and more, aspiring game developers have the opportunity to make the things they are passionate about. GameMaker, a propiertary game engine that allows you to create games in full 2D and limited 3D with limited programming experience is one that has been around for a while.

Today, it was announced that their paid product, GameMaker Studio Standard would be free to anyone (regularly $50) until March 2nd. Anyone interested in picking up the game engine can download it here, following the instructions. Those who already have GameMaker Studio Standard can upgrade to GameMaker Studio Professional for a reduced price of $35 (Regularly priced $99), as well.

GameMaker Studio Versions

GameMaker Studio Standard is a great improvement on the free version, as it removes the harsh restrictions in terms of resource usage. All versions of GameMaker Studio allow prospective game developers to export their games to the Windows PC/Windows 8 and Macintosh platforms as part of the engine. Overall, the program is great for entry-level programmers and designers who want to create games.
