GameArt Studio is a small video game developer that has only published browser games before their first true video game creation, Quantum Rush. GameArt Studio has sent out many invitations to many gamers and Youtubers for the closed beta that started back in December. As in such, I got the chance to interview GameArt Studio's head of marketing department, Andreas Mellenthin about some questions I have about GameArt Studio and Quantum Rush.

Andreas Mellenthin Interview

Q1# How did GameArt Studio get started in the video gaming business?

Until now we have only published browser games, like Holy War, Tagoria, A.I. War and Glory Wars. As the games industry and especially the technical possibilities are constantly evolving, we decided to evolve as well and to develop more complex video games. And we had to learn it the hard way, our first project A.I. invasion failed due to technical difficulties. This project had to be postponed indefinitely and we started working on Quantum Rush. Quantum Rush is now in the beta phase and the general feedback is very good.

Q2# How did GameArt Studio come up with the idea of Quantum Rush? Did everyone in your company agree with the idea? Did some disagree?

We have many gamers and gaming enthusiasts in our company. And some of our employees are fans of WipeOut and Blur. Games like WipeOut have a loyal fan community, but there is still no adequate online counterpart to it. When we were brainstorming what kind of game we want to develop, an online racing game quickly came to mind.

Q3# What makes Quantum Rush so special, in your opinion?

Quantum not only comes with all features of a modern racing, but is also playable online and pits you against other players. And you can test your strengths and qualities thoroughly before you spend money, as it is free to play for every one. It can be played with the keyboard and the gamepad. And of course it will stay in constant development and regularly receive new tracks, racers and features. I think, every one should take the time and have a look at Quantum Rush.

Q4# I have read that GameArt Studio started in Berlin, Germany. How were you able to learn English very well considering how hard it is to learn a new language?

Here in Germany you usually learn English in school. And we have employees from Great Britain or the USA who are learning German instead of English. The difficulty of the learning process differs from person to person. The success depends on many factors, like age, learning type, other known languages, but also the willingness and learning system. I think, there is no general answer.

Q5# Why do GameArt Studio have the games they create set to free-to-play

We consider Free2Play the most fair payment system. The player can actually play the game, before he has to spend money on it. With other payment systems it may happen that you spend a lot of money on a game, install it and are then disappointed in what you got. We therefore use Free2Play.

Q6# GameArt Studio has been committed to creating online multiplayer games. Have you considered creating a single-player mode for one of your future games?

We consider Free2Play the most fair payment system. The player can actually play the game, before he has to spend money on it. With other payment systems it may happen that you spend a lot of money on a game, install it and are then disappointed in what you got. We therefore use Free2Play.

Q7# Other gaming websites and YouTube channels don't have a "true" interest in Quantum Rush. How do you feel about that factor?

It is a bit disappointing, but we are a small and independent developer and do not have a great lobby. But there are already more than 340 videos about Quantum Rush on youtube as well as many positive articles and reviews. After all the game has to be great, then the attention will come, too.

Q8# Compared to GameArt Studio's past video game creations, how does Quantum Rush compare to them? Is it better? Is it worse?

Until now, we have only published browser games, and Quantum Rush is our first video game. They can not really be compared with each other.

Q9# Where do you see GameArt Studio in five years?

In five years we have established Quantum Rush as a MMO and made it available for PC, Mac and Mobile. Of course, this presumes that the players like Quantum Rush as well as we do.

Like I said at the beginning, GameArt Studio is a small video game developer and doesn't have a big fan base but, with Quantum Rush started to gain recognition on YouTube and other sites around the internet, people are starting to take notice. Please, check out some videos on YouTube about Quantum Rush. When the closed beta is finished and the Quantum rush becomes available to everyone, you'll understand why many have a interest in Quantum Rush and GameArt Studio. Heck, maybe one day Machinima and GamesRadar might take notice.
