As if the wait for the next season of Game of Thrones isn't tortuous enough, an interview with Telltale's head of creative communications Job Stauffer over at Eurogamer revealed that Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series Season 2 is on hold.

After the release of the first season, Telltale stated that they had plans for continuing the adventure game series based on the Game of Thrones television show. However, Mr. Stauffer has stated that those plans are now on hold for the moment. Telltale intends to focus on The Wolf Among UsThe Walking Dead, and Batman for the immediate future. Monkey Island and Sam & Max were stated to not be part of the company's future plans for game production at this time.

Tales From The Borderlands was also noted as not having another season planned, although Mr. Stauffer did not rule it out entirely. Since we're not really sure of what the future of the core Borderlands series looks like, it may be some time before we see Telltale take another crack at that universe (if they do at all). The matter of the sales of this particular franchise was brought up, and while Mr. Stauffer conceded that they were not in line with their flagship series such as The Walking Dead, they were nonetheless respectable and didn't lose the company any money. When asked why they would not make a second season if it was a profitable venture, the conversation turned to the matter of fans likely requesting a second season of another property such as The Wolf Among Us. In short, it seems that Telltale Games can only do so many game projects at a time and it comes down to a matter of prioritizing which ones get done next.

As for what's next regarding Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series, Mr. Stauffer stated that they're "back into being huge Game of Thrones fans" and that it's too soon to say what their follow-up to the first season of their game will look like. Although the interviewer pressed for answers, Mr. Stauffer held firm in his inability to definitively say anything about the second season of the game. One factor he did mention was waiting to see how the television series would finish out before they decided what direction to take things in; the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere sometime in late 2018 or early 2019. If it holds to its schedule, it looks like fans of Telltale's take on George R.R. Martin's low fantasy universe might be waiting a few years for the next season of digital storytelling, especially after rumors of a Bethesda Game of Thrones title turned out to be inaccurate.

What do you think of the second season of Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series being on hold? Do you think the delay to focus on other Telltale properties and wait to see how the television show unfolds is the right idea or would you prefer to have the next season sooner?
