Galaxytrail's sequel to their fantastic "Sonic-style" platformer is getting a sample version on PC at the end of January 2017. Freedom Planet 2 looks to improve upon the solid foundation of 2014's indie title Freedom Planet. The game focused on speedy platforming, polished combat, and boss fights that were epic in scale. Many platformer enthusiasts praised the original game for its homage to Genesis-era Sonic the Hedgehog, while still being able to create its own identity.

The sequel's hefty demo will include all playable characters to give fans a taste of what is to come. As of now this roster includes the dragon girl Lilac (Who plays similar to Sonic the Hedgehog), motorbike revving Carol (Who plays similar to Mega Man X), and flutter-jump enthusiast Milla (Who plays similar to Yoshi's Island). Of course, when Galaxytrail says "all playable characters" who knows what surprises they have up their sleeves. It was this gameplay variety with the main cast that made the original Freedom Planet fresh and filled with replay value.

This announcement comes almost exactly one year to the day of the reveal of Freedom Planet 2.

Galaxytrail also released a new trailer showcasing Lilac's gameplay. Judging from the trailers it seems Freedom Planet 2 is taking more influence from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in terms of aesthetic and level design. Lilac seems to be mostly unchanged from the original game, but we did spot some new power-ups and moves. The main thing of note in the trailer is the updated user interface, which is much more polished.

If you haven't played the original Freedom Planet (which you should it's fantastic.) you can currently pick it up on Steam or the WiiU. For more information on Freedom Planet 2, you can check out the official website here. You can also show the developers your support and follow them on Twitter.

I love bad 3D Sonic games. Thus, ruining my credibility.
