Today Nintendo announced via Twitter that a free software update will add Labo VR support to Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The update, which launches today on the Switch, will bring with it the ability to use the Labo VR Goggles to view the game's course selection screen in 360 degrees of freedom, and adds four new courses designed to be experienced in virtual reality. Among the gimmicks used in the new courses is the ability to rotate the stage 360 degrees and view Captain Toad's world from above or behind, and the addition of a first-person mine cart ride through a dark cavern. First released on April 12th, 2019, the Nintendo Labo VR kit is a construction kit that can be used to create a pair of cardboard 3D virtual reality goggles for use with the Switch. Since its launch, several of Nintendo's largest games have been given updates that add a limited VR mode. Among the titles that received virtual reality, updates are some of the Switch's biggest titles including, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Oddessy, and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, a port of the game of the same title for the Wii U that was released in 2015, launched for the Switch in 2018 alongside a 3DS port of the same game. It is based on a similar mini-game that first appeared in Super Mario 3D Land. In the game, the player takes control of Captain Toad and guides him through a variety of courses to gather items. It is notable that Toad cannot jump, which forces the players to find alternate ways to make their way through each stage.
