I don’t play a lot of mobile games, but when someone on Twitter recommended that I check out a cute puzzle game with Tetris-like mechanics, I thought I would give it a look. Unfortunately, Fourms, this seemingly simple game, proceeded to steal away hours of my life.

Instead of Tetris, it’s more like that matching the shape to the hole game which toddlers play – if you were allowed less than a second to make that decision. Fourms may seem to start off fast but you soon get used to the speed. In classic mode, players match the correct shape to the incoming slot as it appears on the screen by tapping left of right to change the object. In master mode the difficulty increases as the color of the slot no longer matches the color of the shape, and in legendary you lose the visual prompt to tell you which side to tap. All of these features do well to increase the challenge for expert players.

Fourms is so simple anyone can download it for free and get the gist immediately. However, the graphics are very pretty and fit in with this game nicely, and while the sounds are cute it would have been nice to have some sort of music to add to the whole experience while I’m playing.

Where Fourms works best is in the gameplay. With a concept this simple it’s hard to get wrong, but they have gone above and beyond. It’s incredibly addictive and is the perfect way to waste some time while waiting around – this is where the game excels. It’s free to play with adverts popping up every few rounds which you need to skip, but there is no in-game currency or real money involved. The game is addictive but allows you to play as long as you like for free, making it great to play on transport or in line.

Overall it’s good, but nothing special. Definitely worth a download if you are looking for something to entertain you in short bursts.

Fourms is free to play and I downloaded my version from Google Play but you can also download it from the App Store.
