The battle royale genre of games is becoming rather crowded lately, presumably spurred on by the success of Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, or PUBG. Of the many battle royale games that now exist, one in particular is really picking up steam, helped in no small part by the fact that it is free to play and it is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac, Fortnite Battle Royale. As of today, the cartoonish alternative to PUBG has amassed a playerbase of some 10 million people ever since its September 26th release date, which is roughly equivalent to the population of Sweden.

In an impressive display of dedication, those 10 million people have played Fortnite Battle Royale for a cumulative time of almost 44.5 million hours, which amounts to almost four and a half hours of gameplay per person over the past two weeks. In addition, these 10 million people have cumulatively jumped from the game's Battle Bus almost 300 million times which, in other words, means that each person has played an average of 30 matches.

Beyond that, the developers have also shared that as of Sunday they have had a peak concurrent user count of 525k, and daily user count of 3.7m

Originally developed as a kind of a Minecraft-esque game where your character has to wander around the world to scavenge resources and build things out of thin air so that you can attempt to survive against waves of creatures at night, Fortnite was rather successful, garnering a player base of over one million players within a month of its release. While the game does have an integrated PvP mode, the battle royale mode was released as a standalone game on September 26, hence Fortnite Battle Royale's somewhat amusingly peculiar title. Given the game's free to play nature and rather charming art style, it would be safe to say that Fortnite Battle Royale will remain a strong contender in the battle royale market for quite a while, at least until the next big genre of games takes off.
