Fortnite Battle Royale 1 Million Players

Epic Games' latest game Fortnite has had a fair bit of success with its PvP-centric Battle Royale game mode: over 1 million players have played the game mode on its first day, according to a tweet from the game's official Twitter account:

Fortnite originally began as a PvE game where players would fight against a "Storm" that had taken over the world by entering into a variety of different types of missions. Typically, players would have to either find objects in self-contained levels, rescue people, or - most commonly - locate an objective and build a fortress to defend it from attacking waves of enemies. Several weeks after its Early Access launch, the game announced a 100-player Last Man Standing game mode called Battle Royale, and after a short testing period, it was stated to be going completely free-to-play on September 26, 2017. It's proven to be fairly successful as the first day's player count totaled over 1 million players, according to Epic Games.

One other tiny bit of news related to the game is the desire for customization. Currently, players are assigned a random model of one of the game's PvE heroes, but the ability to customize your avatar will be on its way at some point in the future:

Fortnite's Battle Royale game mode is currently free to play on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. A patch was recently released focusing on improvements for the PvP game mode, although changes are coming for the PvE side of things in the next few weeks. If you'd like to get into the PvE side of things, you can grab a PC copy of the game directly from Epic Games starting at $39.99 or your regional equivalent. The game is expected to go completely free-to-play sometime in 2018.
