Firewatch developer Campo Santo have released new details on how their walking and talking game set in a beautifully stylized version of Wyoming will take advantage of the upgraded hardware in the PlayStation 4 Pro. This news comes from a blog post on the official Campo Santo blog.
With a lot of talk about what a “4K console” offers and what “PS Pro Enhanced” means, we thought we’d quickly break down the update for you.The post goes on to list the graphical updates coming to the PlayStation 4 Pro version of the game:
- PS Pro Customers with a 1080p Display: enhanced detail distance, smoother loads, and much higher quality shadows
- PS Pro Customers with a 4K Display: the world is now rendered at WQHD (2560x1440p) and the UI renders at 4KUHD (3840x2160) and you will have enhanced level of detail of a standard PS4
While players on the PlayStation 4 won't be getting a graphical update, they will stay get something new to play in the form of a 'Free Roam Mode', which will also be coming to the PS4 Pro version of the game, as well as on the PC and Xbox One.
This mode does all it says on the tin: it lets you walk around the beautifully crafted area without a narrative pulling you to a specific place. In this mode, you'll be able to walk around and explore at your own leisure, as well as take photographs of the things you find out in the wild. This mode will feature a dynamic 24-hour time of day system which I assume will sync to your local time. This mode will be unlocked after you finish the game's (pretty short) main campaign and will be a free update for everyone who owns the game. This mode is out now for players on all systems.
What do you think of the updated graphics for the PS4 pro version of Firewatch? What about the Free Mode?
