Today, Square Enix unveiled more details on Final Fantasy XIV's upcoming Patch 4.5, A Requiem for Heroes, including a release date and details on the new Blue Mage job.

Though players were already predicting it, the release dates of the first and second installments of A Requiem for Heroes are now confirmed for January 8th and March 2019, respectively. The first part of Patch 4.5 will add a batch of new content, including:

  • New story content leading up to Stormblood's climax in the second installment
  • The Wreath of Snakes, a new trial that concludes the Four Lords' quest line
  • The Ghimlyt Dark, a new instanced dungeon
  • The Orbonne Monastery, a new Return to Ivalice Alliance Raid Dungeon
  • New Custom Deliveries quests for Adkiragh
  • More Gold Saucer content
  • New minions, mounts, hairstyles, and player emotes

Square Enix also released a short trailer for the patch, teasing some of the story content to come. Be warned: the trailer is pretty spoilery if you're not caught up on Stormblood's main quest line.

In addition to the content listed above, players will also have access to the new Blue Mage job beginning the week after Patch 4.5 launches. The first job quest will be available to characters that have completed A Realm Reborn's main story and are level 50 or higher in a Disciple of War or Magic job/class. The Blue Mage is a unique job in that it obtains new actions solely by fighting monsters, thereby filling out their blue magic spellbook. Blue Mages that reach level 50 will be able to participate in a job-exclusive activity called The Masked Carnivalea series of challenges for Blue Mages to test their skills and earn rewards.

Square Enix also outlined their plans for two upcoming patches. Patch 4.55 will add content to the Eureka Expedition and Rival Wings, while Patch 4.56 will feature more of Hildebrand's adventures and add more Beast Tribe quests to Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood.
