Fatshark is giving away 100,000 Steam keys for Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West for people who follow them on Twitter and claim their key through a page they've set up for the giveaway.

Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is a multiplayer third person shooter set in (you guessed it) the Wild West. It was originally released on Steam in April 2010. To claim your key, all you have to do is follow Fatshark on Twitter and get your key here before they run out.

Players choose from one of four distinct classes (called "Professions" in this game) to compete in Wild-West themed versions of classic multiplayer gameplay modes such as Control Points or Capture the Flag. The Gunslinger uses a revolver in the "fanning" style of shooting for rapid combat in close-to-medium range. The Trapper is best-suited as a long-range sniper. The Deputy is a medium-to-long range class that primarily uses a Lever-Action Rifle as his weapon. Lastly, the Blaster is an expert at close range combat and explosives by way of his shotgun and dynamite.

In addition to their unique abilities, each Profession radiates an area-of-effect buff called a "Synergy". The Gunslinger increases accuracy, the Trapper increases Critical Strike chance, the Deputy increases damage, and the Blaster reduces incoming damage for all friendly players. These Synergy buffs don't stack so the gameplay incentivizes having a variety in your team's class composition.

The original tweet that announced the giveaway indicates that the giveaway system is likely experiencing delays of some degree. If you do want to get a key of your own, expect to potentially wait for a couple of hours. Fatshark has been responding to people with issues within that tweet, so if you apply for a key and don't get one you might want to try asking them there.

Fatshark has a healthy catalog of games in their history such as War of the Roses and Bloodsports.TV. Their latest title is Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, which has sold over 500,000 copies by the end of March 2016.

Quick Take

I actually really liked Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West but the game died out after a while. I tried playing it earlier this year but couldn't find enough people to fill up even a single server at peak hours. I think it's a pretty fun title overall, and it's awfully nice (and very smart marketing) on Fatshark's part to be giving away one of their older games like this. I think it's worthwhile for you to check it out! I'll certainly be popping back into the game over the next few days. Yee-haw!

Have you ever played Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West before? What did you think of the game? What do you think of Fatshark giving away so many keys for one of their older titles? Let us know in the comments below!
