TR Member Perks!

Your moocher friends have one less excuse for you now. David Marcus, VP of Messaging at Facebook announced today (from his Facebook, of course) that every U.S. member can now send money to someone via the P2P now built into Messenger.

From his post:

Add your Debit Card and pay anyone on Messenger in a few taps. Money goes straight from your checking account to the recipient’s checking account. Easy and safe. As always, give it a try it and let us know how we can make even better for you!

Sending money is pretty easy with Facebook Messenger. You just need to add your debit card to Facebook and then hit the “$” in the Messenger app. You type the amount that you want to send to your friend and then hit confirm. You can even make it a hyperlink in your group message by just using a dollar sign in the message. Your friend accepts the payment and in a few days they will have their money. Why debit cards and not credit cards you ask? To help minimize fraud and to avoid all of those crazy credit card fees. There is talk in the post about money limits and it looks like it will vary depending on your bank.

Facebook announced Payments back in March and had taken its time bringing this to the masses. It started small in New York and has slowly expanded. Sorry international raptors, there are no talks right now about bringing this feature to other countries.

Facebook Payments is joining a lot of other already good apps, but this one has the power of Facebook behind it. Will you be sending money to your friends via Facebook? Do you feel comfortable giving Facebook your credit card number? I mean, they have all your other information anyways. Discuss below!
