Red Thread Games is an indie studio based in Norway, founded in 2012 by Ragnar Tørnquist, who previously produced and directed adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. From 2014 to 2016, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Red Thread Games released the episodic adventure Dreamfall Chapters (Our Review). The studio's newest offering is Draugen, a first-person mystery adventure set in a gorgeous mountain setting somewhere in Norway.

You'll play as Edward Charles Harden, a man who's spent his life in self-imposed isolation, confined to the solitude of his manor study, absorbed by books and studies. His only contact with the outside world is his sister Betty and his ward, Lissie. As Betty disappears, Edward must overcome his apprehensions and follow her trail before it fades completely. Followed by Lissie, who is as loyal as helpful to tether you to reality, you must embark on a dark and scenic journey into misty fjords of the hinterlands of Norway.

Focused mostly on first-person exploration, the game has been described as "fjord noir," combining the majestic views of snow-capped Nordic peaks with the noir tradition of narrative in film and games. The story aims to be more than a quest for a missing woman, instead becoming a rediscovery of one's own history through a forsaken community, and unusual friendship. Lissie reacts to and interacts with Edward through dynamic dialogues and a context-sensitive interface. You'll follow clues with Lissie in stride, probably solve a few puzzles on the way, but the game seems primarily focused on exploration throughout the gorgeous scenery of the backwoods of Norway.

Draugen is coming to PC on Steam and GOG in May 2019. More information is available on the game's official website.
