Evolve, the upcoming team based FPS where four human players team up to hunt one monster player, will be released on February 10. You can already preorder the game, but the different editions available on different platforms may cause some confusion. A post on the official Evolve site breaks down the different editions and what they offer.
The basic version of the game is $60, and comes with 12 unique maps, 12 hunters to play as, and 3 playable monsters. All of this will be available on the day of release. If you preorder the game you will get a 4th playable monster. That monster will be available for purchase on day one for those who didn't preorder. Certain retailers are offering additional extras for preorder, and you will have to consult your local retailers for details.
The Digital Deluxe version is $80 and contains everything in the base game, as well as the 4th monster, plus the Hunting Season Pass. This version is only available for digital download and if you preorder. If you don't preorder it, the Hunting Season Pass can be purchased separately for $25. It contains 4 new hunters as well as 3 exclusive skins to change the appearance of your monsters. The hunters will be available for individual purchase at a price of $7.50 each. Note that the 4 hunters included in this version will not be available on day one, but will be downloaded as they are released.
The PC Monster Race Edition is $100 and contains the base game, the 4th monster, the Hunting Season Pass. It also contains an unannounced 5th monster that is still in development as well as 2 more hunters not available in the other versions. The 5th monster will not be available at launch but will be available at a later date when it is completed. This version also contains 4 monster skins which will be exclusive to this bundle for 30 days after launch. As the name suggests this version is exclusive to the PC unlike the other editions that are available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
In another post, the team goes into detail about how the DLC will work. Although you can't play as hunter or monster without buying them, you can still play against them. If your friend has one of the extra monsters that you don't have and you play him in a match, you can still fight against that monster. They also mentioned that there are maps being developed for download in the future, however in order to avoid splitting the community, all new maps will be free for download. This means that nobody who owns the game is feeling left out.
