Based on the popular, award-winning tabletop game of the same name, Evolution retains many elements from its analog counterpart, only adding the brisker pace of the video game on top of its design. In the tabletop version, the goal of Evolution is to adapt to changing ecosystems, hungry predators, and limited resources by having your animal species gain traits over thousands of years of simulated evolution. Boasting over 12,000 different species to create, the game, was critically successful, with over 1.6 million players worldwide, including being used as a teaching tool at the University of Oxford and being featured in Nature, one of the world’s leading scientific journals.

The video game version of Evolution, which was four years in development by North Star Digital Studios, will retain most of the charm of the tabletop version by offering a learn-while-you-play experience. Features of the video game include a brand new campaign mode against tough, Apex Species, and online multiplayer with cross-platform play between iOS, Android and PC devices. Evolution The Video Game boasts over 24,000 possible species combinations and plenty of challenges for players looking to adapt and survive a deadly environment.

“The original Evolution tabletop game has developed a fanatical following among players since its release in 2014,” said Scott Rencher, president , nd co-founder of North Star Digital Studios. “With the Evolution video game, we’ve gone all out to make this not just a great board game adaptation, but a fantastic strategy video game in its own right.”

In addition to the games official release being today, North Star Digital Studios is also offering copies of the Evolution tabletop game for those willing to try the game out. For the next 100 days, 10 players will be randomly selected out of everyone who played an online game of Evolution that day, and receive a copy of the tabletop game for free. 1,000 copies will be handed out between now and May 23rd, 2019.
