Paragon, Epic Games' foray into the MOBA market, is closing down forever on April 26, 2018, according to a news post on the game's official website.

First announced in late 2015, Paragon is a 5v5 MOBA set from a third-person perspective. The game was made available for Early Access in March of 2016 followed by the worldwide open beta for PC and PlayStation 4 in February 2017. Development had been happily chugging along, releasing a new hero to the game just over a month ago along with a trailer that laid out her abilities:

Epic Games opened the post with thanks to their community who had contributed tons of helpful feedback towards the development of the game. Unfortunately, the developers feel that the game just doesn't have a clear path to a sustainable player base as a MOBA despite the dedicated community and the hard work of the developers. Epic Games chalks this up to not executing their premise well enough to capture the attention of the gaming world.

Some players may have sunk a few dollars into the game at some point, and Epic Games is making refunds available to players. Console players will have to link their Epic account if they haven't done so already. After that, they can fill out this form to request a refund. You'll need to include any receipts that you received after your purchase. The refunds will be coming directly from Epic themselves rather than the vendor from which you may have made a purchase.

In the meantime, Paragon players will have roughly three months to enjoy the game while it's still online before it shuts down forever on April 26, 2018. As player population decreases, matchmaking times and the quality of matches are likely to get worse. If you've been waiting to check it out, you don't have much time left.

What do you think of Paragon shutting down after less than a year in open beta? Do you think the game ever had a fighting chance? Let us know in the comments below!
