Epic Games has been snapping up exclusives left and right recently, and Remedy Entertainment's Control is no exception. According to a recent Digital Bros report (it's in Italian and is very long), Epic paid 9.49 million euro (that's around $10.4 million USD) for exclusive rights to Control on PC.

This is backed up by industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, who tweets as @ZhugeEX. Ahmad says that Digital Bros, the parent company of Control publisher 505 Games, received 9.49 million euro for Control. He goes on to say that the payment was 100% related to the game and that no similar payment exists from Sony or Microsoft. Twitter user @Zaimokuza33 corroborates this, saying that the report explicitly states the earnings from Control are derived "from the digital marketplace that requested exclusivity for its distribution".

According to PCGamesInsider, the budget for Control was somewhere between 20 million and 30 million euro. If that's true, then the exclusivity agreement with Epic makes up a pretty staggering 50-66% percent (roughly) of that budget. It's pretty obvious why that would appeal to a developer; being handed that much money in exchange for your game appearing on one PC launcher alone would be enticing. Naturally, some people aren't happy with Control's exclusivity, so we'll have to see how this news affects Remedy and Epic.

Control is a third-person shooter created by Alan Wake and Quantum Break developer Remedy Entertainment. It's currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game casts players as Jesse Faden, an agent with the fictional Federal Bureau of Control. Faden arrives at the Oldest House, the FBC's headquarters, in order to discover what's happened to her younger brother Dylan.
