A Capcom Pro Tour Premier event is due to be held at the UK’s biggest gaming exhibition, EGX 2016. The European Gaming Expo (EGX) will be held at the NEC in Birmingham from the 22nd to the 25th of September. The tournament itself will take place on the aptly named ‘Fight Zone’ Stage from the 23rd to the 25th of September.

Capcom Pro Tour (CPT) is a worldwide Street Fighter league where competitors from all around the world compete in a league to earn enough points to compete in the final Capcom Cup for the chance to become world champion and be rewarded with a large prize pool. This will be a Street Fighter V

This comes in the wake of EGX 2015 holding a Capcom Cup qualifiers tournament as part of the Capcom Pro Tour where players from around Europe came to gain CPT points in order to qualify for the Capcom Cup. With the the success of that event, Capcom has upgraded the event to a Capcom Pro Tour Premier event with a $15,000 prize pool with $7,000 being awarded to the winner of the tournament. Being a premier CPT event, the winner of the event will be guaranteed a place in Capcom Cup 2016.

Tickets for EGX 2016 are available now to purchase, details about how to compete will be revealed later this year.

Quick Take

With Street Fighter V almost here it has been interesting to see Capcom’s interaction with the Street Fighter fanbase, with multiple open betas, holding a worldwide Street Fighter competition for the last 2 years. They’ve done this while also seemingly doing away with their old business model and instead allowing a one time game purchase with free balance updates. Whether Capcom can stick the landing and deliver a suitably stellar release product in Street Fighter V is something we will be finding out in the near future.
