EA has announced that they'll be "doubling down" on e-sports in the coming months. E-sports has been a strong part of the company's community efforts in the past, and going forward it seems that they'll be increasing their focus in the arena. The latest FIFA and Madden titles were especially highlighted as points of interest during this announcement.
This commitment was later highlighted by the announcement of the launch of the largest EA SPORTS FIFA competition ever. The competition will be powered by FIFA 18 and FIFA Ultimate Team on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms, creating a competitive environment where players will have multiple ways to compete.
To start, there will be official football league competitions where players can represent their favorite real-life soccer clubs. The FIFA Ultimate Team Champions Cups will be open to all players as an online matchmaking tournament; the highest qualifying players will transition to live events in the winter and spring. The FIFA Interactive Club World Cup will showcase real footballers moving their skills and strategy from the soccer pitch to the couch. These are the core events being announced, but there are also plans for "top-tier" competitive gaming organizations to bring even more ways for players to compete.
