Insurgency: Sandstorm E3 2017

One of 2014's surprise hits was Insurgency, a multiplayer tactical FPS that was a standalone sequel to a popular Half-Life 2 mod. Now we got a first look at Insurgency: Sandstorm, the sequel that is looking to add even more to the formula.

The biggest new feature and the one developer's New World Interactive were really showing off at E3, was that of a single player campaign. The trailer for the game showed two characters driving into a city, one of the soldiers discussing how he understood why the other was going back. While we don't know these character's names or what they're doing, we did learn that the man is a U.S. Army veteran that became a volunteer soldier, while the woman is a soldier native to the country they're in.

While the story mode can be played alone, you can also play through it co-op. The game will allow for split-screen play for you and a buddy, or you can play with three other players online. The game will follow this squad of four characters as they are cut off from all other help and need to survive.

While the focus may have been on single player, some multiplayer details were also revealed. Insurgency: Sandstorm will still retain the teamwork heavy and objective-based gameplay of the original game. There will, however, be some new features. You will now be able to drive light vehicles, call for fire support, and have a customizable character that you can earn unlocks for. The developers have also promised full mod support for the PC version of the game.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is set to come out on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime this year.
