Rumors have been going around for a while now that Sony was working on a PlayStation 4.5, codenamed the PlayStation Neo, for a while now. It seems Sony has finally confirmed those rumors (originally Financial Times piece), though it may be a while longer before we get to see the console in action.

There aren't many details about the console yet, but Andrew House, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has confirmed that it's in the works. We are still unsure of the exact specs of the new console, or what the price will be, though House has at least confirmed it will be more expensive than the current PlayStation 4, which currently goes for $350. It seems as if they are using the PlayStation Neo to target better graphics and provide 4k TV support, though.

House also confirmed that future releases will work on both the original PlayStation 4 and the PS 4.5. House said, "All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4," when asked about this. As of right now there are also no plans to get rid of the normal Ps4. The Ps4.5 is meant to compliment the Ps4 and both will be around for the entire generation.

When it comes to E3, it seems Sony is just not yet ready to show the new PlayStation. They want to ensure that software is ready to be shown on the PS 4.5, and it seems it's just not at that point yet. Still, Sony has plenty to show during their show still.

Quick Take:

Well, this throws off a ton of people's E3 predictions, as the PlayStation 4.5 was probably one of the most heavily predicted things. Still, it's nice to get confirmation that it's actually real instead of having to watch the rumors continue to pile up. Hopefully, it's a significant improvement over the PlayStation 4, and more importantly, there's some way for current owners to get on the Ps4.5 without having to buy the whole console at whatever they retail it for.
