Bound PS4 E3 2016

The indie title Bound received a trailer at E3 and a release date for the Playstation 4.

Bound has you play in the world of a woman's memory, as he relives her childhood. The game itself is simple in its design, featuring polygonal shapes to give off a sort of dream-like quality to the world, which is fully controllable thanks to a 360-degree camera and a third person perspective. Bound will have players use dance moves to traverse the fantastical levels, all the while meeting different challenges through platforming gaming.

At the heart of Bound, besides the platforming gameplay, will be an introspective story that takes players on an emotional journey in the characters memories, using metaphorical imagery to give depth to the character.

Bound is being developed by Plastic Games, in collaboration with the SIE Santa Monica Studio, the team behind the God of War series. The game is set to be released for the PlayStation 4 on August 16th, and will be compatible with the PlayStation VR headset when that comes out in October. Remember, you can find more of our E3 coverage at our E3 2016 Coverage Hub.

Quick Take

I really like the look and concept of Bound. It looks like a relatively challenging platformer game, and the idea to use dance moves to get around environments is a pretty interesting wrinkle to the standard jump and wall-hug gameplay we tend to see in most platformers. Plus, it being an exclusive PlayStation (and thus PlayStation VR) title also bolsters the library for Sony as well.

I also got to admit, I really like the aesthetic style of Bound; the simple polygonal shapes work for me, and the use of color and shadow is quite impressive. It adds to the dream-like state the game seems to be pushing with its narrative. For me, it's certainly a game to watch, but what do you think about the game? Leave your comments below.
