E3 2014 Nintendo - What we should expect

With E3 coming next week, we here at TechRaptor thought we would show you what we expect to see from the major publishers. Let's take a look at Nintendo. Their press conference is June 10 at 9:00am PDT. Probably more than any other press conference, at E3 2014 Nintendo has a lot to prove. They are showing massive losses with the Wii U and they could really use E3 as a boost to those sales, or at least to keep the hopefuls interested.

What is going to be seen at Nintendo is a little easier in some respects as they have recently been slowly showing and announcing games.

The first and most obvious thing that Nintendo will talk about is the new Super Smash Bros. game for both the Wii U and 3DS. Fully expect to see some more gameplay footage shown and I wouldn't bee too surprised to get some release date information for both versions of the game. Also, you can bet that they will announce another character or two for the game. If their feeling extra "cheeky" they'll show off the newly announced controller for the Wii U as well (the Gamecube controller).

With the recent batch of news and leaks about Hyrule Warriors I wouldn't bee too surprised to see some gameplay footage there and possibly a look at a few different playable characters. If we're extra lucky, or the game is actually that far along in development, we may see a release date for the game.

Another game that will likely have its release date announced is Bayonetta 2. Considering we saw some gameplay at least year's E3, I would fully expect to see a little more in a trailer that also announces the release date.

X the sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles will most assuredly make an appearance as well. Last year we saw some in-game footage, so I would expect to maybe see some actual combat, especially so we can see if it is similar to Xenoblade Chronicles. It may have a release date as well.

Might as well mention Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. It's another Pokemon game. And a remake of a Pokemon game. Not much else to say other than that we'll likely see more about it, and may get some kind of release window.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, has a good chance of being shown off a little bit as well. It was announced a year and a half ago and crosses two major franchises together. I would be incredibly surprised if they don't at least spend a few minutes on the game.

Nintendo's NFC Figurines - Some info was released about this a bit ago, but these figurines seem to basically function like Skylanders or Disney Infinity. I would not be surprised to see more about them.

Many fans in North America and other places outside of Asia will be looking for Monster Hunter 4. Seeing as it has been awhile since its release in Japan and South Korea, I wouldn't be too surprised to get a release date for it in other areas of the world. It has the potential to really help out the Wii U's sales, which Nintendo desperately needs.

The biggest announcement Nintendo could make would have to be for the new Zelda title on the Wii U. What that would be exactly, I don't know. I wouldn't expect more than a teaser for something like that. However, if Nintendo was really on top of their game, we should see at least some kind of 2 minute trailer about the game. With the knowledge that Mario Kart 8 just released, Super Smash Bros. is coming soon, and if Zelda were on the horizon, the Wii U would see a much needed boost.

And, we must not forget that Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind basically every major Nintendo franchise, has been working on a new IP for some time. What that will be, who knows? But, maybe we'll here something about it at E3.

Of course we must address the supposed recent leak, another one, of Nintendo's E3 schedule. The only thing that makes me skeptical about that list is the incredible ambition laid within it. What has been listed here so far is more or less known about and what the game is going to be about. That list includes a lot of unannounced titles. That could be good for Nintendo, to announce all of those games, but who knows what state they are in assuming they exist. Considering the volume of things on the brink of releasing, I am highly skeptical of a new Star Fox game, Mario Party, Pokemon Fighting game, Yarn Yoshi, and Super Mario Sunshine HD. That doesn't mean that none of those titles will be spoken about, but I highly doubt all of them will be at once. The list included there seems much more like one that gamers would like to see rather than what will actually be talked about.

Regardless, Nintendo really needs to do something to help themselves. They are woefully behind even where they hoped the Wii U would be at their lowest projections. Nintendo needs a massive shot in the arm and they can't let the opportunity that E3 gives slip away.
