It seems toad is getting his own game this time around, Captain Toad was announced for the Wii U at Nintendo's E3 2014 Press Conference.

This trailer shows aspects very similar to a classic Mario game like the recent Super Mario 3D world. In this game Toad is dressed up as an adventurer setting out to collect coins and diamonds. Enemies shown as Goombas with inner tubes, shy guys and Boos. A new pickup is shown in the shape of a glowing blue pickaxe that when connecting with it Captain Toad will begin swinging it wildly, like the hammer in Smash Bros, and it allows him to destroy blocks that are next to him. The turnips from Super Mario Bros 2 seem to return allowing Captain Toad to pick them for coins or fling them at enemies using the Wii U gamepad to target.

Captain Toad will be released in 2015 and more will probably be shown later at E3 or sometime in the near future.
