This past weekend, DreamHack Atlanta 2017 took place and probably fell under some peoples’ radar due to not being part of the Capcom Pro Tour or Injustice Pro Series, and many spectators still having Evo on their mind. However, with a $10,000 prize pool for Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it was worth the trip for plenty of established and aspiring pros alike. In addition to that, the event offered a $5,000 prize pool for Street Fighter V and $2,500 pool for Injustice 2, making DreamHack ATL a worthwhile registration for local warriors. Tekken 7 is the only game in the lineup that has a tournament here that’s part of the game’s official pro tour, along with its own $2,500 prize pot, making it pretty significant in the eyes of nearby Tekken players.

Streams for the event’s fighting games were aired across three Twitch channels: DreamHackFighters, DreamHackSmash, and VGBootCamp. Brackets will also be linked to on Smash.gg. As usual, players will be listed in the common “[team/sponsor name] | [player name]” format.

Salem takes home yet another championship, cementing the fact that his huge win at Evo last week wasn’t some sort of fluke. Unfortunately, this won’t be helping to stop some of the incessant calls for Bayonetta’s nerfing.

After originally being sent to losers by ODFullAuto, Circa’s Forever King returned with brute force, absolutely dominating grand finals by taking six straight games. Punk also makes a surprise, but brief appearance in top 8. Perhaps he’ll be participating in Injustice 2 tournaments in future majors? Or maybe he’s just here to have fun?

This concludes the top 8 results for all of DreamHack Atlanta’s singles fighting tournaments. They also held doubles side tournaments for both Smash games. Check out their brackets here (Melee) and here (Smash 4), and visit the Twitch channels listed above if you want to see them.

I've been playing video games since 4 years of age, and finally began to deeply invest myself into the world of fighting games in 2015 after many off-and-on encounters with games inside the genre. I have a preference for 3D fighters, but also enjoy Street Fighter, King of Fighters, and some airdashers. I'm also a big fan of RPGs and shmups.
