In 2011 Dragon Fantasy: Book I launched on iOS devices and later got ported to many consoles, including the PlayStation 3 and Vita. The game was a rather successful parody of the 8-bit RPG time. It was followed up in 2013 by Dragon Fantasy: Book II, which was more aimed for the 16-bit era. Unfortunately, the game released to poor reviews thanks to its unpolished state. It now seems that developer The Muteki Corporation wants another shot at the title.

Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice is an updated re-release of Dragon Fantasy: Book II attempting to fix up all those rough edges. Admitting that the original game either had to be released or see their company shut down, the developers talk about having troubles moving onto another game because of the poor reception of Dragon Fantasy: Book II. So on the side they began to rework Dragon Fantasy: Book II and now it's almost ready for release.

Among the new additions is a new boss fight, a reworked story that works better for people who missed the first game, a difficulty slider, a bestiary to keep track of all the enemies you have defeated, and the Thieve's Guild having a base in every major town to help making completing bounties easier. As an extra bonus: anyone who bought Dragon Fantasy: Book II on the PlayStation 3 or Vita will be getting Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice on the PlayStation 4 for free. So you don't need to worry about this one being made specifically to grab cash.

This isn't the first PlayStation 4 game that is essentially a fix on an original broken release. Back in 2014 developers Bloober Team released the infamously bad Basement Crawl. The next year they updated and re-released it under the name Brawl, though arguably the damage was already done by that point and Brawl was mostly forgotten.

Dragon Fantasy: The Black Tome of Ice launches on the PlayStation 4 on March 22nd, 2016. No price was mentioned, but Dragon Fantasy: Book II currently costs $14.99 so expect it to be similar.

What do you think about this one? Should they bother going back to fix up their original attempt? Or is this a waste of time? Let us know in the comments!

Correction: The article originally called this game "The Black Tomb of Ice". It is actually called "The Black Tome of Ice" and the article has been updated to represent that.
