Last week news broke that ultra popular fantasy sports website Draftkings would be expanding into the world of eSports, more specifically League of Legends. For those unfamiliar, Draftkings is a website that offers 1 day fantasy leagues, meaning you draft a team for one day with the potential to earn money and they do it all again the next week unlike traditional fantasy sports, which require you to draft your team to use throughout the duration of that season. Draftkings have already started support Legends of Legends in preparation for Worlds, which kick off this week with the highest prize being $25,000.

Shortly after that news, FanDuel announced they had acquired established fantasy eSports website, AlphaDraft. AlphaDraft is very similar to the typical one-day fantasy leagues that Draftkings and FanDuel are known for. It’s worth noting that at the moment DraftKings currently only has support for League of Legends while AlphaDraft, now part of FanDuel, supports League of Legends, Dota, CSGO, among others.

It’s very interesting to see these two very popular websites expand into the constantly growing world of eSports. While many people may not be a fan of fantasy sports, you have to give credit to these website owners who have recognized that eSports is more than just a passing fad. One-day fantasy sports have exploded in popularity over the last few months so naturally expanding to more and more markets like eSports will only help the growth of these websites. If you want to check out either of these sites for your self, you should know that most leagues are paid leagues. That means you pay money to play in that specific one-day league for the chance to win some good money, although you will find the occasional free leagues that only require an account. League of LegendsWorld Championships begin this Thursday so if you want to get in on the action you better do it quick.
