The Dota 2 Secret Shop, an online merchandise hub for fans of the game to get their hands on physical goodies, has been closed after two days of operation according to the game’s official website.

The International 2017 Secret Shop was initially opened on July 17, 2017, as a resource for Dota 2 fans to purchase physical goodies tied to Valve’s spin on the MOBA genre. A store powered by WeLoveFine handled Western orders and the Chinese market was handled by Perfect World. The products on offer were able to be shipped nearly anywhere in the world.

Unfortunately, shipping costs were outside of fans’ expectations of Valve. They have apologized for this misstep and shuttered the online shop for the moment while they reassess their plans. Valve took care to mention that merchandising of these particular goods isn’t a purely profit-focused endeavor for them. Anyone who has already placed an order with the online Secret Shop will continue to receive it if they wish, or alternatively, they may request a refund. In the meantime, Valve is at work behind the scenes trying to figure out how best to get physical Dota 2 goodies into the hands of fans around the world.

As for the people who are fortunate enough to attend The International 2017 in person, worry not – the on-site Secret Shop will still be up and running as expected. The International 2017’s Group Stage will begin at Seattle’s KeyArena on August 2, 2017, and the main event will run from August 7 through August 12, 2017.

What do you think of Valve closing down the online Dota 2 Secret Shop for The International 2017? Do you think this was the right move for them, or should they have left it online regardless of the high shipping costs that some fans were complaining about? Were there any particular items from the shop that you would have liked to get your hands on? Let us know in the comments below!
