DontNod's anticipated RPG Vampyr has been officially delayed.

According to a recent press release, the game will be delayed to Spring of 2018 due to a major technical issue that has set the team back at the end of the game's development, according to DontNod CEO, Oskar Guilbert.

"This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr's scope," stated Guilbert.

Vampyr will have the player explore early 20th century London during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a newly turned Vampire who struggles with his new affliction. The game boasts a semi-open world based on the streets of London, where your moral decisions will determine the fate of the city, district by district.

Much of the game's morality ties into how side-quests and districts work in Vampyr. Citizens will be the main side-quest providers but if the player kills too many citizens, side-quest content will be locked off. So killing too many innocent citizens will lead to districts literally crumbling; so merchants, for example, will pick up and leave while more guards, criminals, monsters and other vampires take their place. You also can’t reload a save after you kill someone, as the game saves automatically each time an NPC dies, forcing the choices on the player.

In addition to this, the game features a robust role-playing progression system, including three known skill trees for vampire powers; the shadow vampire, who are stealthy and use powers to manipulate victims, the blood vampire, who control victims by using a form of blood magic, or the instinct vampire, which is a ferocious, aggressive style of play that hacks and slashes through victims.

Vampyr was last talked about at E3 earlier year, which saw DontNod release a new cinematic trailer for the game, along with several short gameplay demos showcasing some of the games quest lines and skill trees. TechRaptor's Andrew Ottman also played a demo of the game during an extended presentation by DontNod, which you can check out here for more information.

Vampyr is slated for release on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in early 2018.
