Have you ever wanted to revisit the glory days of Final Fantasy XIV‘s launch back in 2010? Do you want Final Fantasy XIV Classic to happen after the buzz around World of Warcraft Classic? Looks like you’re probably going to be disappointed.
In a recent interview with YouTube channel Easy Allies, Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida describes the initial launch of the game as a “nightmare”. He says that when the game originally launched in 2010 it was “scary”, and that many players dropped out quickly after experiencing it. Yoshida goes on to say that he thinks it’s likely players who fell in love with the game after the A Realm Reborn relaunch wouldn’t like what they saw on 1.0 legacy servers. It makes a lot of sense that Yoshida wouldn’t want to make Final Fantasy XIV Classic. It’s easy to forget how terrible the game was received the first time around. Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 had terrible bugs, a bad UI, and awful quest design, among other problems. The game managed to garner itself a 49 average on Metacritic, with an even lower average user score of 3.9. It’s safe to say that not many people have nostalgic memories of Final Fantasy XIV.
The original Final Fantasy XIV launched back in 2010. The game was ill-received, prompting co-director Naoki Yoshida to shut down the servers in 2012. The team went back to the drawing board and redesigned the game from scratch, resulting in the infinitely better-reviewed Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in 2013. Yoshida says he acknowledges the desires of players to go back to the days of “1.0 through 1.X”, but that it’s probably not what people actually want.
The latest expansion for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, titled Shadowbringers, is due for release on July 2nd.
