The Division Update 1.7

Ubisoft has rolled Tom Clancy’s The Division update 1.7 on all platforms, adding global events, Commendations, new gear and customization options, and improvements to the paid Survival mode DLC.

The patch weighs around 6GB to 8GB, depending on one’s platform. On The Division’s official Twitter, Ubisoft announced that a three-hour maintenance will be deployed to prepare the new update.

The Division update 1.7 has new content additions. Global events is arguably the biggest new feature as its developer will regularly add challenges with exclusive rewards. There are two custom game modifiers to choose from, namely, Global and Activity, which both forces players to change their playstyle. With the introduction of new missions also comes new gear sets called Classified Gear, granting players stat bonuses to spice up their playstyle.

The first global event starts today at 9 am PDT and will end on August 22. The event “challenges players with new enemy behavior due to the severity of a virus outbreak.”

Also noteworthy is the introduction of Encrypted Caches, which is the game’s version of cosmetic loot boxes. These can be unlocked via premium credits or Cipher Keys found in the game world. A total of 10 Cipher Key fragments are needed to create one Cipher Key to unlock an Encrypted Cache. Unique vanity items are listed in Collections and completing one will yield players a certain reward.

Other additions include a built-in achievement system called Commendations, which allows players to proudly show off their feats by attaching badges on their character’s arm patch. New customization options also allow players to re-customize their character’s appearance and remove cosmetic equipment such as face masks and shades.

Additionally, rewards have been increased for reaching Tier 1 and Tier 2 in the Survival DLC.  In a timely fashion, both the PvP and PvE versions of Survival will be free to play from August 18 to August 20 on all platforms. Console players should definitely check Survival as it offers an experience similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or H1Z1 King of the Kill. Discounts on the various editions of The Division will be done in conjunction with the free weekend.

The Division update 1.7 also has a plethora of balancing changes and bug fixes. The full patch notes can be seen here.
