We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.
Marvel Heroes is an ARPG MMO similar to Diablo. It’s free to play and has been on Steam since 2013. It launched on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 earlier this year under Marvel Heroes: Omega. This shouldn’t be a complete surprise to those following the game, however. According to Kotaku, Gazillion missed its last four weeks of community updates, and two special events. While the game wasn’t incredibly well-received upon release, it still built up a decent following over the years. One look at the forums shows these players giving their final thoughts and goodbyes.
No end date has been provided, so those who want to jump on for a few more days have the chance to. As of this writing, in-game microtransactions are still available for purchase. The website has no official update either. Marvel Heroes is the biggest culmination of Marvel characters in gaming. It features over 60 characters in the PC version and has received many game-changing updates since release, with 2017’s being the “biggest update ever.”
What do you think of Marvel Heroes shutdown? Are you going to jump on for some final goodbyes? Let us know in the comments below!
It’s always a shame to hear about a game shutting down. Both developers and players have spent years of their lives with Marvel Heroes. It must be heartbreaking to have that taken away from them.
