Disney Infinity has not had a good year. The problems started in March when Disney announced they would not be making a Disney Infinity 4.0 in 2016, but instead would just make more content for 3.0. Two months later Disney Infinity became another victim to bloody 2016 as Disney canceled all future plans for it and shut down Avalanche Software. Two more months brought more bad news as Disney announced they would be shutting down the servers as well. Then in October we had United Front Games, developer of one of the campaigns for Disney Infinity 3.0, also shut down. In the final days of 2016, it seems fans of Disney Infinity will get at least one bright spot.
Disney has surprise released the Disney Infinity Gold Collection, a bundle of all three Disney Infinity games. The bundle is made to include all characters and “playsets,” which are basically the game’s versions of campaigns, that have been launched since it came out. This is particularly interesting as this would mark the first time the original Disney Infinity has made its way to Steam.
While it has a ton of characters and playsets (a quick count puts it at a little over 100 characters and 15 playsets) this does mean it’s missing one of the biggest draws to the game. The Steam version of Disney Infinity had its servers shut off back in September (the console versions still have until March 2017), and as such the level creation and sharing tools are no longer available. There is also some reported characters missing, with a poster on Reddit noting that the Zootopia characters are missing from Disney Infinity 3.0. If this is a glitch or intentional is still yet to be seen.
While you may not be able to do the level creation stuff and there’s some missing characters, if you’ve ever wanted a chance to experience the many single player campaigns of Disney Infinity, then this is by far the cheapest way to do so. You can pick up all three games in a bundle for $59.99 or each game individually for $29.99 on Steam.
How do you feel about this? Happy to get a chance to try out the campaigns? Wish the online was still available? Let us know in the comments!
