Dishonored 2 Update Header

Dishonored 2 has come out, receiving general critical acclaim aside from some rather notable PC issues and garnering a current OpenCritic score of 88. In this day and age, the release of a game is far from the end of its story. Beyond working on fixing the PC version, they have a beta patch out addressing some mouse issues, Bethesda has detailed what Arkane is working on next to improve Dishonored 2 in a free content update next month.

The two things that they plan on adding in December are a New Game Plus mode and some Custom Difficulty settings. While they didn't share details on what they plan to accomplish with either yet, the New Game Plus mode seems like something to encourage players to go back and play the game with the other protagonist in Dishonored 2. As for custom difficulty settings, it is likely to let players further make the game customized to your play style, but we'll have to find out more when they release those details in the lead up to releasing this update.

Additionally, Arkane released a new video discussing how they make a game that respects player agency and creates options for players to approach situations in different ways. They also discuss the choice to allow players to turn down powers and play through the game without them.

Dishonored 2 released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC November 11th. While we don't have a full review up yet, you can read some of our early thoughts on the game here.

Quick Take

It seems to me that a New Game Plus mode should have been in the base game already, as it's something that in a game with distinct protagonists like Emily and Corvo you will want players to go back and play again. Having the option to play without powers makes that even more pronounced, as does the open-ended approach to gameplay solutions. As for custom difficulty, I hope they do get a bit crazy there and implement some stuff for challenge runs and similar things.

What do you think of Dishonored 2's planned update? Do you think they should be focusing more on fixing the PC version? Is there something else you prefer they add to the game? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
