Nippon Ichi’s popular tactical RPG series Disgaea has just received a release date for the Nintendo Switch port of the latest game in the franchise. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will be released in North America for Nintendo Switch on May 23, 2017 and in the UK on May 26, as announced last night at the NISA Press Event.
Coming out 2 years after the initial launch on PS4, Alliance of Vengeance was originally released in 2015 in Japan and North America and is set for a Japanese release on March 3, 2017 as one of the launch titles for the Nintendo Switch system. The North American release for Switch will specifically be Disgaea 5: Complete, and includes all DLC packs from the PS4 but no new console-exclusive content.
“Both versions are the same. However, the Switch version features all the DLC from the PS4 version. We will definitely be emphasizing that all DLC can be found on the Switch version as well as highlighting that the game can be played at home or on the go,” said NIS America senior associate producer Alan Costa, in an interview with MCV.
Taking place in the Netherworlds, like previous Disgaea games, Alliance of Vengeance focuses the story on Killia, a young demon who has a past with Void Dark, the demon emperor. While he’s not a team player, Killia is forced to ally with the other characters and the Overlords of the Netherworlds in order to exact revenge on Void Dark for devastating many Netherworlds after his ascent to power. The game’s main theme is on the concept of revenge and it was directed by Takehisa Matsuda, who also directed 2013’s Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness, the sequel to 2003’s Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
