Dirty Bomb microtransactions are coming to an end. The team at Splash Damage had planned on doing one more update before moving on to something else, and it seems like they've slightly changed their plans to make the game better for all players.

In Dirty Bomb, you can pick from one of 20 different mercenaries in a world where the titular explosives have devastated cities around the world. This game aims to take shooters back to their roots and it does so in fine fashion. One of the major downsides was the Dirty Bomb microtransactions, but a news post from the developers says those are coming to an end.

Further details are in an expanded news post on the game's official website. This forthcoming update starts off great with the removal of the premium currency. Players who are currently holding onto RADs won't get left out in the cold, though. Here's a shortlist of what to expect, straight from the developer:

• Weapon Cases will be 25,000 Credits.RADs have been converted to Credits with a 1 RAD = 20.84 Credit exchange rate • We have removed RAD DLC bundles from Steam • RADs are no longer awarded as Daily Play rewards • We have removed RAD prices from Crafting • We have removed RADs from Advancement Crates • We have removed the ‘Bundles’ tab from the Store • Removed the RADs button from the Store • Removed the RADs Balance indicator
The rate at which players earn credits has also been increased to compensate for the removal of Dirty Bomb microtransactions. Further simplifying matters is an expansion of the game's Steam Trading system. You'll now be able to swap even more weapons with fellow players. All Steam DLC packages and premium bundles have also effectively been removed from the game.

As for servers, Splash Damage says that they should be up and running until the end of 2019. What happens after that is up in the air, but they might just figure out a way for the more dedicated parts of the community to keep the game running. Be sure to read through the entire news post for all of the fine details. In the meantime, you can play Dirty Bomb for free—actually for free— right now on Steam. The update that removes microtransactions will launch on January 15, 2019.
