One of the biggest criticisms levied against DICE's Star Wars Battlefront, the main thing you always see pop up online are complaints about that game's lack of depth and variety. While certainly being one of the most beautiful games of 2015, the game didn't manage to impress in many areas. With Star Wars Battlefront II coming to a system near you in November of this year, players are hoping that the game will be more than a shiny love letter to the Star Wars universe.

Speaking to PlayStation LifeStyle, DICE creative director Bernd Diemer spoke about what lies in store for Star Wars Battlefront II. Diemer acknowledges the reboot's flaws as well as some criticisms levied by players of the reboot.

On the gameplay side, we said, “Okay, we have the core gameplay…we’ve got it nailed.” There are things we need to improve and we want to build on, but the main thing we wanted to add was depth. Give more reasons to stick around, try out different heroes, try out different trooper types, and that’s why we introduced classes. There’s a little bit more variety in the team-play, not everybody is the same, and you can now form your own squad if that is your thing.
This directly addresses one of the major gripes many players had with Star Wars Battlefront. The game looked and sounded exactly like the movies, but the lack of variety in locales, the complete removal of space battles and a progression that didn't have any meaningful impact on the experience made the game feel rather lean in terms of content.

The inclusion of a story campaign, a feature that was conspicuously absent from the reboot, is yet another addition DICE have added to the game based on player feedback. Dogfights in space will also make a return to the franchise with Star Wars Battlefront II, and a more varied bunch of classes players can customize their troopers to suit their playstyle.

Star Wars Battlefront II is scheduled to release on November 17, 2017, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (affiliate links).

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
