The launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the latest addition of one of the most successful franchises owned by Ubisoft, sparked a lot of controversies mainly related to the many technical issues of the game. It is reportedly affected by frequent crashes, framerate drops and glitches both on the console and PC versions. Ubisoft reports on the official forums that the developers are “working furiously” to fix those problems.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity has been frowned upon since its release. Its embargo was set to expire 12 hours after the official release of the game and many theorized that the decision was made to impede the press to report about the technical issues of the title. Another problem that made the fans and press alike wonder, was that the review copies supposedly lacked the frequent microtransaction popups present in the retail release. But, of course, the central point of the matter about Unity are the technical problems it had at his launch. Those are, indeed, so severe, that Ubisoft launched a live update blog posting by the minute reports about the current status of the game.
Earlier today, a hotfix for Playstation 4 and PC was released that should fix some bugs (like the main character falling trough the floor) as well as game crashes. It does not fix the performance problems just yet, but Ubisoft promises that they are working with their partners to address the issue as fast as possible.
Ubisoft also issued an apology about a previous post stating that the PC issues were related to certain AMD builds.
On PC, some media outlets have misinterpreted a forum post indicating that we were working on resolving issues that were AMD-specific. We apologize for any confusion and want to be clear that we are working with all of our hardware partners to address known issues that exist across various PC configurations
The said statement that linked AMD builds to the issues, has been called out widely on the internet. Many stated that even top-notch PC builds with no AMD hardware in sight (latest i7 Intel processor and two GeForce 980 in SLI for example) couldn’t run the game properly.
