With the official Destiny 2 reveal coming this past week, many players have started to inquire as to what will become of the original Destiny once the sequel gets released. The conclusion of the Age of Triumph event will also be the last new bit of content being added to Destiny.

We want to create a final event, like a parade, a victory lap. Our goal is to create a culmination of three years of adventure, to celebrate the community that has gathered and to give them a curtain call. The race is over, they’ve knocked down every combatant, and while they stand on the precipice of a new adventure that will take them to new worlds to tell new stories, we’d like to take account of the wonderful experiences we’ve shared with them and the awesome things they’ve done.

The Age of Triumph event is shaping up to be a wild ride of the game’s greatest hits, with some classic quest lines getting a reprise in addition to completely new quests and story missions on Heroic mode in a special weekly playlist. Partaking in this event gets you unique rewards and raid weapons, as well as updated raids that have been scaled to accommodate end-game players. For more details on this (currently ongoing) event you can go here.

So, after this event’s concluded, what lies in store for Destiny? Nothing, really. But that’s a good thing! All the content available for this game will remain playable for as long as you want, and Bungie has no intentions on shutting down the servers anytime soon. Here’s to hoping they’ll allow players to play offline once hosting the service becomes more troublesome than it’s worth.

Destiny 1 is still a game that will be there for players. We’ve planned to support it for the foreseeable future, so while we do have a sense of finality and closure as the theme of this Age of Triumph event, we are by no means turning the lights off on Destiny 1.

What Destiny 2 is going to look like is something we’ll have to wait on a little while longer to find out. Bungie has scheduled the official gameplay reveal of Destiny 2 for May 18.

What do you think of the Age of Trumph event? What’s your best Guardian story?
