As Destiny 2 is in the midst of launching its free trial across all platforms, another problem for the game is currently brewing. The XP Requirement in Destiny 2 has been doubled following changes to the game's progression system as reported by Eurogamer.

A bit of background: a few days ago, Redditor EnergiserX had discovered that Destiny 2 players don't quite gain as much XP as they would expect as they play through the game. A lot of data is available to review should you feel to need, but the short of it is that XP gain in the game had been somewhat hamstrung based on a hidden factor. The faster you earned XP, the less you earned overall (with some of the most egregious scenarios resulting in a staggering ≈95% loss of XP according to EnergiserX's tests). After the revelation of this system, Bungie had removed it entirely following furor from the community.

Unfortunately, it seems that one problem has been traded for another. The XP requirement in Destiny 2 has been doubled from 80,000 XP per level to 160,000 XP per level. An investigation on the /r/DestinyTheGame subreddit has more details, but it seems that even with the additional gain players are expected to gain approximately 6% more XP overall as compared to the previous hidden system which had been slowing down progress.

Destiny 2 Director Luke Smith took to Twitter to address the community's concerns, promising that issues with the game would be addressed soon:

Even though the XP requirement in Destiny 2 has been doubled for now, it seems that Bungie has heard the player outcry and will be addressing the issue in the near future. What exactly the December update for the game will contain (and whether or not it will address character progression) remains to be seen, but Bungie is definitely paying attention to the issue for now. In the meantime, if you're curious about seeing what the game is like you can hop into a free trial and explore the early bits of Destiny 2.

What do you think of the XP changes in Destiny 2 and the previous hidden progression system? Why do you think Bungie implemented the system in the first place? What changes do you think they will make in the December update? Let us know in the comments below!
