Destiny 2 Strike

Destiny 2 is now out in some parts of the world and many are taking to popular streaming services such as Twitch to show off just as much of the game that they can. From missions to locations and more, those ravenous for information before the game rolls out in their region are discovering all that they can. An interesting revelation came from viewing the Eververse storefront and that it was no longer just cosmetic items in stock. PCGamesN reported on this inclusion after viewing a Destiny 2 stream by user King Gothalion.

For those who aren't aware, Eververse is the one store in Destiny that handles the exchange of Silver, a premium currency that was included later in the life of the original title. When browsing the store, players located an item called a "Bright Engram" that upon research was found to have the ability to drop any of the following:

  • Ability Cooldown Armor Mods
    • This modification will change the cooldown of your Super, grenade, and melee abilities for one of your subclasses.
  • Character Stats Armor Mods
    • This modification changes your characters resilience, mobility, or recovery.
  • Weapon Stats Armor Mods
    • This modification will allow you to enhance an equipped weapons handling, stability, and reload stats.
  • Elemental Weapon Mods
    • This modification can allow you to change the element of an Energy or Power weapon.

At the Eververse storefront the prices for the Bright Engrams are as follows:

  • 1 Bright Engram = 200 Silver
  • 3 Bright Engrams = 500 Silver
  • 5 Bright Engrams = 800 Silver

This means that a player will be able to spend 200 Silver, or the equivalent of $2 at the lowest trade of Silver to USD, to have a roll at these equipment modifications.

What is important to know that it's only possible to purchase a Bright Engram after reaching level 20, the current max level of Destiny 2, and that for every level you ascend past level 20 in-game, you will be rewarded with a Bright Engram for no cost. The Bright Engrams are effectively the replacement of a Mote of Light from Destiny. At this point in time just how much of an upgrade you're going to get to your stats for equipping each of these mods is still unknown.

Quick Take

Yes, there are non-cosmetic items that you can purchase with real money, but will it really make a difference? Comparing them to a Mote of Light might not be the best comparison as you were rewarded Motes from other in-game activities, but while it might give some players an advantage right as they hit level 20, give the community 3-4 weeks and begin to see the posts rolling in wanting to trade out Bright Engrams for another currency like Legendary Shards. Yes, this is buying upgrades with a premium currency, but no it's not game breaking and everyone will end up with more than they know what to do with.

Do you plan to purchase a Bright Engram? Do you think you'll have more than enough through regular play? Are you not even worried about level 20 upgrades yet?
