Destiny 2 had the biggest console launch week of the year and record-breaking day 1 sales on the PlayStation Store as reported by VG 24/7.

Activision has reported that Destiny 2 has moved the most units of any console game this year. One factor in this assessment was the number of concurrent players: 1.2 million players were on at the same time on launch, and at least 1 million Guardians played the game for the first eight days of its release.

A large number of these concurrent players were likely playing a digital copy of the game – Destiny 2 smashed sales records for the PlayStation Store, selling more digital copies on its first day of release than any other title in the history of the digital distribution platform. Activision has not released specific numbers regarding the sales of either physical or digital versions of the game. Though the game has done well in the PlayStation’s digital ecosystem, it may not be able to break any records on Blizzard considering that it will be alongside PC gaming juggernauts like World of WarcraftHearthstone, and Overwatch.

If you don’t yet own Destiny 2, you can grab it for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One for $59.99 or your regional equivalent. If you’re more of a mouse and keyboard kind of guy, the game will deploy on PC on October 24, 2017 via the Blizzard digital distribution service. And if you are already out there fighting the threats to mankind with cool space elf armor, consider taking a peek at our guide to reaching 300 power or our guide on heroic public events.

What do you think of Destiny 2 having had the biggest console launch week of 2017? Do you think the sales are a reflection of the game’s quality, the game’s marketing, or both? Will you be purchasing a copy of the game when it comes out on PC? Let us know in the comments below!
