As shown during Bethesda’s E3 showcase, Arkane Lyon revealed their new game, titled Deathloop. Pitting two assassins on a strange island named Blackreef, the two appear to have a variety of weapons and skills at their disposal. Little information was revealed during the E3 showcase, but the island also appears to have some unfriendly inhabitants, and in a period of social upheaval.

Arkane’s recent work was concerned with large-scale first-person action games in Dishonored 1/2, and the more recent Prey. Deathloop looks to be considerably more contained, though the strange windmill-like structure and nonstop loops mean there might be more to the island than meets the eye. Here’s the full description of Deathloop, as provided by Arkane:

DEATHLOOP transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins. Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.

It’s notable that the CG trailer had little gameplay to show, suggesting that it might be several years before we see footage of Deathloop. Described as a “first-person action game,” a trademark was spotted for Deathloop only earlier this year. Interestingly, some of the murmurings surrounding Deathloop suggested it might be a mobile game, which is not unsurprising, especially with Zenimax’s recent pivot towards the mobile market. Considering Deathloop is the next game from Arkane Lyon, we should expect to see more information, platforms and gameplay included, about it soon.
