Team Ninja’s controversial beach volleyball game Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is launching soon. While the full version will be available in Asian markets at full price on March 24th for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, it was recently revealed that the game will be getting the free to play treatment come summertime.

It was mentioned in Japanese gaming magazine Weekly Famitsu that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will be receiving a free to play version in the early summer. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round: Core Fighters is a free version of Dead or Alive 5 with a reduced roster of characters and game modes. Additional modes, characters and content can be purchased separately for the game.

The free to play model seems to have worked well for Koei Tecmo with Dead or Alive 5 and it seems they are planning on doing something similar for Dead or Alive Xtreme 3. No details about how the free version of the game will operate have been revealed yet however, gamers can make some educated guesses. It also is unknown what regions the free version of the game will be available in this summer.

Purchased content will also be available for Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 in the form of “Premium Tickets.” Premium tickets can be purchased in the PlayStation Store with real life currency and can be spent on additional cosmetic content, like costumes in the game. All content that can be acquired with premium tickets can also be earned with in game currency as well.

A lot of new videos and images of the soon-to-be-released game are circulating the internet thanks to an event in Tokyo where Koei Tecmo let attendees play DOAX3 and post what they liked. Videos show off some of the gameplay players can enjoy when the game is released. They’ve also been systematically releasing character trailers for the game leading up to it’s release. This week’s character trailer was Ayane and the buxom 18 year old models various swimwear.

For the most recent information about the game you can visit the game’s website (but you may need a translator). Over at Famitsu there are some screenshots and videos to help tide you over until the game’s release. Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is releasing on March 24th on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game is not being localized for the West but an international version with English subtitles can be imported
