Sales figures have been released for the week ending April 27th, and it's good news for fans of the undead. Sony's newest zombie IP Days Gone has pipped Mortal Kombat 11 to number one in the UK boxed release gaming charts.

Days Gone's launch week physical sales are 27% lower than those of God of War, which launched at a similar time as a PS4 exclusive last year. Still, God of War had the benefit of an entire franchise behind it. Days Gone is a new IP, and it hasn't been doing as well as Sony Santa Monica's opus critically. Bear in mind that this doesn't take download sales into account. Given that UK video game sales are now 80% digital, Days Gone could well have done even better than these figures suggest. It might also not be fair to compare Days Gone to God of War since the latter broke records on release.

Mortal Kombat 11, meanwhile, has suffered a 43.6% drop in sales like-for-like compared to its predecessor Mortal Kombat X. Again, this isn't including digital sales, which could well account for a large proportion of the game's numbers. That said, the game hasn't been without its fair share of controversy around microtransactions and grinding. Whether or not this has hurt Mortal Kombat 11's sales is unclear, but it's not all bad news for Netherrealm's gory fighter. The game's sales are slightly increased compared to 2017's Injustice 2, the last game Netherrealm released. MK11's most popular platform is the PS4, with 71% of game sales being for Sony's console.

Elsewhere, sales were fairly slow. Red Dead Redemption 2 managed an almighty 4% sales rise, while Metro Exodus re-entered the UK gaming top 40 after a price drop. Zombie shooter World War Z, which was last week's UK Number One, dropped nine places after a 70% week-on-week sales drop. Here's the full Top 10 for the week ending April 27th if you're interested:
