Scavengers Studio has revealed that their battle royale game Darwin Project is now Free to Play. Creative Director Simon Darveau took to Steam to announce the news, detailing how the game will run moving forward:

"We’ve been fortunate to have a core community of players join us at a very early stage, with many still supporting us during Early Access, and the last thing we want to do is let those passionate players down. Lately, members of our community have reported longer queue times and difficulty finding matches in lesser populated servers. To bring in new players and maintain a level of activity that ensures players are able to get the most of out Darwin Project, we’ve decided to make it more accessible by removing the price tag."
Of course, Darwin Project has been in paid Early Access up until this point, so many players are already wondering whether there is anything being offered to those who have already purchased the game. Darveau addressed these concerns in his post:
"If you own Darwin Project, you’ll receive the Founder’s Pack containing 2 MTL Legendary sets, 3 Legendary Axes, 3 Legendary Bows, a full jumpsuit collection, and 5 Fan Gifts. It will be added to your inventory on Tuesday, April 24. (Name of the items is subject to changes )"
For those unsatisfied with the bonus items though, the studio are offering a refund, regardless of when the game was purchased. The refund will conform to Steam's Refund Policy, and will be available at some point next week. For those sticking around though, check out the bonus items below:

According to Scavengers Studio on Twitter, the game is also set to go Free to Play on Xbox One, an update will be given next week. They said further details on it will be forthcoming, presumably on points like refunds.

Darwin Project is a battle royale game which takes the tried and tested genre up North. Players battle it out as part of a twisted reality show under the Show Director's gaze.  One player in each round takes on the role of Show Director and can drop bombs, mess with contestants and cut off areas of the map. In order to succeed, players must use the game's snowy environment to their advantage, following player tracks and search for maps hidden in cabins.
